 | The Madness is best summarized by the event slogan coined in its inaugural season: "If you don't come to crawl, don't come at all!" Yes, that just about sums it up. This event is rock crawling. Organized by rock crawlers for rock crawlers. Having organized more than one four wheeling event, I would be the first to tell you that most organizers are torn by compromise as they try to satisfy the four wheeling desires of a broad spectrum of enthusiasts. Not so at the Madness. Want to take your lightly modified everyday driver out on a scenic trail? Better find a different way to spend the holiday. You won't find "easy" or "moderate" trails at this event!
The Madness delivers six trails, all rocky. Extreme, most difficult, or 5+-rated. It doesn't matter how you classify the Madness' trails. The "normal" person might just call them stupid, stupider, and stupidest. For the hard-core rock-seeking aficionado, the canyons outside of Montrose are just plain heaven. Clutch Creek, Cactus Ridge, Calamity Canyon, Scratch and Dent, Topless, and Die Trying - The descriptive and colorful names paint a vivid and often noisy mental image of the fun to be had at the event. | |
