Now, before you Jeep purists moan and go elsewhere, stop and think for a minute. The wimpy military and civilian flatfender frames are almost all going away by now. Years of cracking, welding, modification and just plain abuse have made flatfender frames that are in good shape almost nonexistent. Suzuki Samurai frames are boxed, the correct dimensions and even have a gas tank in back, like later CJ's.Alan used a full Samurai frame, the Suzuki steering column, the Samurai brake pedal and accelerator pedal assemblies, and the Suzuki power brake booster and master cylinder. While the Samurai gas tank bolts in the frame in back and comes with a nice skid plate, he chose to buy a 12-gallon fuel cell and install it higher in the body for ground clearance.
The Flat Fender from Suzuki Lightning Conversions utilizes a Suzuki Samurai frame and a fiberglass CJ2A body from AJ's Fiberglass. Suzuki Lightning can build one to your specifications, too.
The custom suspension utilizes coilovers from Sway Away. The suspension allows lots of articulation, letting the Flat Fender keep its tires planted on the ground (except for when it rolls). The front diff has 3.73:1 gears and a Detroit EZ Locker.
