"Much of what we do is design and manufacture suspensions for 4x4 vehicles. They're very popular in this area and there's plenty of challenging terrain for them to tackle. Our customers are not interested in simply adding a lift kit to their vehicles Ð they want a good ride, great wheel travel and stability. No two vehicles are alike, so we must ask questions of the customer as to how the 4x4 is going to be used and, most importantly, how it's equipped. A 1989 Jeep YJ Wrangler with a V8 conversion, big bumpers, winch and a hardtop requires a very different spring from a four-cylinder YJ with a soft top. Custom designing and building such suspensions is what I enjoy most about this business. It's becoming a lost art, even though there's a great need and demand for it. "Lots of companies mass-produce quality 4" lift kits, but performance is sacrificed in these generic lifts as they have to meet the needs of the general suspension-buying public. Most extreme 4x4 customers will not be happy with these kits, as they can't handle the demands that are placed on them. We receive many calls from parts houses who would like to stock our product, but mass production is not appropriate for vehicles used in extreme conditions as there are too many variables that come into play. We strive to give every customer the best product possible for their specific application, and that can only be done by asking pertinent questions of the customer and then building a suspension that addresses their specific needs." I use Alcan springs on my Toyota 4x4 pickup and can report that they're superb! In fact, Alcan has become famous as THE custom spring provider for Toyota pickups. My rear leaf packs are almost five feet long and, while they flex well, are still stable on vertical climbs. Give Charles or Ken a call at Alcan Spring and see if they can't build custom springs for your extreme 4x4, too! SOURCE
